March is Running past

March 21, 2008 · No Comments

Hard to believe that it is the 21st of March already when I look out the front door to seee over seven feet of snow still on the lawn with more predicted.  It’s all right.  Spring is here so soon enough this white stuff will give way to green. I miss seeing my DD more and more as the year moves on.  It is a good thing I will be able to visit next month.  Otherwise I might well explode.

I am back knitting a pair of socks for Reg, working on them during break-time at the Co-op.  I am very pleased with the colour.  It is the Brigg’s and Little Anniversary wool.  It is only available with the purchase of two skeins at the usual price (about $3 at the Co-op).  It is sold for $1.50 and is a lovely dark heathery blue with hints of black.  I picked up some nice Toughy from Brigg’s and Little for the heels and toes.  They should be quite attractive and I am making them longer than usual.  Soon as I have enough to photograph I will stick the picture up.

Tail End of Winter

March 15, 2008 · No Comments

DickensMarch is an odd month being neither winter nor spring.  I always feel hurled about by the rapid meteorological changes.  One moment I am grinning from ear to ear and basking in a Spring scented breeze and the next moment I am wondering how I will get to work during the howling blizzard.  The upshot is that I feel unsettled and vaguely confused.  Knitting helps to some extent but March makes me yearn for more. I miss seeing my daughter and my Some-day-in-law.  I feel unproductive around the house what with my shifts at the Co-op.  My husband is grumpy because of an on-coming cold, worry about his Mom and life in general.  I am looking forward to April as I have a really good feeling about it.  Life is too short to spend sniping about the month of March so, if I can’t learn to love it,. I shall wait for it to end.  The cat had an adventure today.  He was out on his walk with Reg and climbed a huge snow mountain.  From the lofty height of about ten feet he surveyed the neighbourhood and reaffirmed his supremacy!  Then he scrabbled back down the bank and they continued their walk.  Oh to be a cat and so certain of your spot at the head of the food chain.  LOL

Getting into the swing of things

March 9, 2008 · 1 Comment

Mug & hand warmerI am slowly recovering from my whim to return to work!  I had agreed happily to a couple of shifts a week as a cashier at the Co-op.  I do it every year for a week or so over Member’s Appreciation Week in November.  It gives me Christmas money and makes me appreciate the people who work there.  It was extra money, I liked both my fellow members and fellow employees and it was only a couple of shifts a week…right?  I had neglected to factor in:  1.  March Break when many young employees were off with their families leaving the store short of cashiers  2.  March Break when the Co-op was incredibly busy with young families who hadn’t gone away  3.  A whole new cash system that the Co-op is presently installing requiring retraining and extra shifts for those who catch on while the rest are trained some more.  4.  A fifty seven year old who hasn’t spent much time on her feet for several years needs toughening up…gradually would have been nice.  I have been working a consistent 4-5 full shifts a week for the last few weeks.  LOL

I will live but I haven’t had a lot of posting time.  I manage to scan my e-mail, my Ravelry site and occasionally try to hit this blog.

Mainly I am coming home, eating the supper Reg has made and taking a hot bath before bed.  I have managed laundry, swish and swipe and litter duty but that is about it.  Ageing is not for sissies, which is why I am refusing to do it, at least mentally.

I am doing a bit of knitting, mainly of the brainless variety.  I have been working on cup holders, a keyhole scarf, fingerless mitts, a zigzag scarf, etc.  The sort of stuff is getting done that will use up the endless ball of Red Heart SuperSaver orange yarn while also giving me some of those great last minute tuck in things for Christmas.  It is also stuff I can work on when I get home and can’t see straight or when I have ten minutes in the break room at work.

Back to Work!

March 8, 2008 · No Comments

I am working a bit at the local Co-op as a way to earn a bit of cash.  I have worked Member’s Appreciation Week as a cashier for years so, when asked if I would be willing to come in a couple of days a week I agreed.  I didn’t remember to explain to my back.  LOL  I’m sure everything will be fine when I get used to it and when I get the schedule worked out so that I really am only on for a couple of days a week as opposed to nearly full time!  This is cutting into my knitting time. I am working my way through a huge ball of Red Heart worsted in BRIGHT orange.  I bought it and a blue one to make my some-day-in-law a scarf (the illusion knitting Robot one) and, even after that, there seems a lot to go through.  I have made a water bottle cosy, a pair of fingerless mitts (still have to add the thumbs) and am working on a keyhole scarf.  Does this stuff never end?  I need to get back to my Brigg’s and Little wool.

I shall try to keep an accurate accounting of my progress and and problems with my assorted interests and doings. My husband and I have a daughter who is an independent and exciting woman in her own right.  We live in a tiny village with a large and ill-tempered orange tom cat who shares our home and rooms filled to bursting with the flotsam and jetsam of our many hobbies.  Life is good.
